Description

It's no secret that Donald J. Trump likes to Tweet. He uses Twitter to make news, make policy, and make us pay attention to him. But he's hardly the first American President to use new media to communicate with the people. In this fresh, funny, wide-ranging lecture, Professor McCarthy puts the Provocateur-in-Chief in his historical, political, and cultural place. Taking Trump's Tweets as his archive, Dr. Timothy Patrick McCarthy explores the question on everyone's mind: Is there method or meaning to this madness?

Timothy Patrick McCarthy, award-winning scholar, educator, activist, and public servant is making a guest appearance at the Harvard Club of Sacramento. Dr. McCarthy holds a joint faculty appointment in Harvard’s undergraduate honors program in History and Literature, the Graduate School of Education, and the John F. Kennedy School of Government. He has received the Stephen Botein Prize for Excellence in Teaching, Derek Bok Center Award for Teaching Excellence, and Dean’s Award for Distinction in Teaching at the Harvard Kennedy School. In 2017, the Harvard Crimson selected him as one of Harvard’s “15 Professors of the Year.” A frequent media commentator, Dr. McCarthy is featured in several documentary films and has appeared on NPR, BBC, and CBS News. Dr. McCarthy has also worked on numerous political campaigns at the local, state, and national levels, including the Presidential campaigns of Barack Obama (2008) and Hillary Clinton (2016).
